Greater Washington Urban League Recruits National Cohort for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program
When Thomas P. first came to the Urban League of Greater New Orleans’ Urban Reentry Jobs Program, he was unemployed and living in the local halfway house. Urban League staff assisted him with honing his interview and computer literacy skills, which led to him attending a “Suits for Hire” job fair in March. He started working at the local Marriott, but with the possibility of homelessness still loomed over his head.
The Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Council (ORV-WBC) hosted its’ 7th annual Catch the Wave Conference which was held in Cleveland, Ohio from April 18th – 20th. The ORV-WBC was established in 2009 to provide Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification to woman-owned businesses in the states of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. ORV-WBC operates under the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio, Business Development & Entrepreneurship Department through a collaborative effort with WBENC.

Darlene Thorpe had worked 16 years for a print shop when she was laid off last summer.
The world had changed in those years, and the 60-year-old grandmother found herself unemployed and out of step with the job-seeking skills needed today.
From May 23-26, National Urban League staffers attended the 2016 National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) National Training, Breaking Ground, in Dallas, Texas. The conference used a unique "train-the-trainer" format to provide nonprofit practitioners serving low-to-moderate income Latino and immigrant communities with best practices and emerging innovations in the field.

NEW YORK (November 5, 2015) — Thousands of low-income urban youth will see their long-term economic prospects improved by learning about the economic impact of unhealthy behaviors and the lack of health insurance, thanks to a new partnership between the National Urban League and AmeriCorps, National Urban League President Marc H. Morial announced.
