Greater Washington Urban League Recruits National Cohort for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program

On Thursday March 24, 2016, the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) and the Washington DC Economic Partnership in conjunction with the National Urban League hosted the last of three webinar based informational sessions to recruit for the National Cohort for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. The program offers practical business skills to help entrepreneurs take their businesses to the next level including identifying and executing new business opportunities, attracting and retaining top talent, maximizing marketing strategies, streamlining operations and understanding cash flow. The presentation was conducted by ICIC’s David LeBoeuf- Associate, Urban Business Initiatives, to a live audience of 14 Small Business Owners.
The morning started off with networking, food, and a welcome by the Vice President of Programs for the GWUL, Ms. Catherine Hogan. She spoke briefly about the impact that the Urban League is having in the community overall with programming but specifically spoke about the Entrepreneurship Center program. Mr. Eldridge Allen, Director of Entrepreneurship greeted the audience and talked about the vision and goals for his program and how the Small Business Owners can and will benefit from the counseling and training that his team provides. Caron Washington, Manager of Entrepreneurship and Business Development for the National Urban League, gave greetings on behalf of his department and the President and CEO of the National Urban League, Mr. Marc H. Morial. He spoke about the history and goals of the Entrepreneurship Center program and thanked Goldman Sachs and ICIC for their partnership. Participants of the webinar had an opportunity to engage David via telephone with several thought provoking questions.
The interest for the program was very high and the entrepreneurs were very excited about the benefits. The afternoon concluded with the attendees sharing about their businesses and extending invites for various networking sessions in the near future. Several entrepreneurs expressed their intent to apply for the program.
