HOUSTON AREA URBAN LEAGUE CLIENT WINS WELLS FARGO WORKS FOR SMALL BUSINESS: NEIGHBORHOOD RENOVATION PROGRAM CONTEST
In August 2017, Houston Area Urban League Entrepreneurship Center client, Kaffeine Coffee & Internet Café, was awarded $10,000 from the Wells Fargo Works for Small Business: Neighborhood Renovation Program Contest. Orgena Keener, an Urban League vendor and small business client, will collect the money on behalf of the shop.
Earlier this year, small business owners in designated Houston neighborhoods/ZIP codes were invited to enter the contest by completing a contest application, and writing an essay responding to four questions about their business on wellsfargoworks.com/renovation.
Kaffeine Coffee & Internet Café is nestled in Houston’s Third Ward off of Almeda near Southmore, and provides a friendly place for the diverse community it serves to meet and relax. One challenge the business faces is curb appeal and frontal visibility. As a finalist in the competition, they hope to address this issue, and plan to make some changes to the interior that would improve food-service efficiency and allow for an expanded menu.
“Wells Fargo is honored to name four local small businesses as winners in the Wells Fargo Works for Small Business: Neighborhood Renovation Program Contest,” said Darryl Montgomery, Region Bank President, Houston South, Wells Fargo. “The company has a long history of focusing on outreach and building strong relationships with small business owners to help them succeed financially, and we are excited to support the Houston small business community through this program. We look forward to seeing how the contest helps these businesses take the next step toward their goals.”
Upon completion of the business renovations, Wells Fargo plans to host a small business community event in Houston to showcase the renovations and engage the broader community of small business owners in Houston.
