Justin C. Success Story (Los Angeles Urban League)
Justin C. is a 29 year old African American male who lost his job as a maintenance man, and was encountering difficulty obtaining a job due to lack of credentials and substantial work history. When he enrolled in a program at the Urban League, Justin expressed interest in working as a construction apprentice. Based on assessments and evaluation, his Career Advisor referred him to the Urban Construction Jobs program, where he learned pre- employability skills working in the construction industry. He successfully completed the two-week workshop and got immersed in the construction field. He was subsequently referred to attend a pre-apprenticeship training at a local company where he also successfully completed that training. While he was waiting for himself to get indentured with the Carpenter’s Union, Justin obtained a seasonal job at UPS as a Driver/Helper earning $10.50 an hour. Justin eventually got indentured in the Carpentry Union, and is currently working as a Carpenter Apprentice with an hourly wage of $20.11 per hour. Justin is very appreciative towards all the help and support that was extended on him to assist in his transition towards successful employment and financial stability.
