Columbus Urban League Helps Jamika Hone Her Skills
Prior to coming to the Columbus Urban League, Jamika K. was unemployed with a lot of ideas of what she wanted to do. Her initial goal was to start her own bottle company. She also wanted to start a ‘Green Columbus’ program that would enable her to learn about landscaping and water drainage. Jamika’s initial purpose to going the USCJP program was to gain knowledge in supply chain management and obtain a certificate in Customer Service Operations to help her with her entrepreneur skills. Jamika had the challenge of narrowing down her goals and working on one or two instead of trying to complete every goal she had without prioritizing. Jamika’s greatest transformation was her ability to focus on one goal – to obtain employment. Jamika was able to obtain help in updating her resume and submitting it to various employers.
The Urban League has helped Ms. Stallings plan out her career and personal goals. To help her work on a resume, apply for positions, enroll in the program and complete the course while employed. Urban League staff members helped Jamika in her career options by providing insight into the position in which she applied. Jamika’s Career Coach and USCJP staff all help to contribute to her transformation.
During the Workforce Career Training course and USCJP Customer Service Operations course, Jamika obtained employment with CUL, in the ResCare department as an Employment Specialist.
