LEARN ABOUT THE URBAN JOBS ACT OF 2011   (S. 922)

Contact your Senator and urge them to co-sponsor the Urban Jobs Act of 2011 (S. 922) - Letter of Support, formally introduced in the United States Senate by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). As an ongoing effort to address the rising rate of unemployment in urban communities (it now stands at 16.2% among African Americans and African American Youth unemployment has risen to 40.7%), the National Urban League has declared a “War on Unemployment”. In addition to developing the Jobs Rebuild America Plan, we are supporting the Urban Jobs Act of 2011 (S. 922).

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The Urban Jobs Act of 2011(S.922), which is similar to the House bill (H.R.683), would provide the long overdue necessary resources to implement a proven model program – the Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) – that targets a population of youth who are terribly underserved. The Urban Youth Empowerment Program will provide desperately needed resources for non-profit organizations to offer educational programs, employment and job readiness activities, and support services, in order to reduce the disproportionate incarceration of minority youth and to prepare eligible young adults for entry into the world of work.
