The Urban League’s first of Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley’s Hand Up Initiative classes will begin, June 15.
The three-week job readiness course, called Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention (SOAR), is being offered by the Urban League.
It will be the first of 11 classes held during the next year in several Cincinnati neighborhoods, including East Price Hill, Madisonville and Mount Auburn, among others.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hampton Inn’s Uptown Room at 3024 Vine St. in Corryville. Participants may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m.
The Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio (Cincinnati, OH) received $250,000 of the $1.12 million that Cranley is using to combat poverty in Cincinnati. It is one of six local agencies receiving grants in the program.
Up to 25 people will be enrolled in these neighborhood-based classes, in addition to the similar classes that are offered monthly at the Urban League’s headquarters at 3458 Reading Road in Avondale.
