What is NBHAAD?

The movement has four main objectives that it hopes to realize within Black communities:
- Education: To distribute information about HIV/AIDS locally.
- Testing: Establish February 7 as an annual day to get an HIV test.
- Involvement: Increase the number of Blacks involved locally.
- Treatment: For those newly testing HIV+ and those coming to terms with their status, get them aware of treatment services and information.
When is it recognized?
February 7, 2014
Why is there a need?
Did you know?
- While blacks represent approximately 14 percent of the U.S. population, the latest CDC estimates show that they account for almost half of all new infections in the United States each year (44 percent) as well as almost half of all people living with HIV (44 percent).
- Approximately one in 16 black men will be diagnosed with HIV during their lifetime, as will one in 32 black women.
- Among blacks, men account for 70 percent of new HIV infections. Women account for 30 percent.
- Young black MSM are severely affected and now account for more new infections (4,800 in 2010) than any other subgroup by race/ethnicity, age, and sex.
