Urban League of Broward County: Got Logistics?
Christopher J. came to The Urban League of Broward County having already a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics and a Minor in Finance from the University of Central Florida. Christopher’s future aspirations were to own his own business and obtain certifications in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) industry to develop a greater understanding of logistics.
Urban League staff assisted him with resume critiquing, access to potential job leads, onsite recruitment fairs, and techniques to improve his interviewing techniques with prospective employers. While participating in the program, Christopher has earned six certifications to date and is presently enrolled in Demand Planning. He accepted a part-time position with Fastenal where he works in the capacity of Sales Support with a wage of $12.00 hourly.
After a three month training period, he will be offered full-time employment with a salary of $48,000 plus commission and benefits. Christopher states, “My attendance in the SCM classes has made my transition easier. I enjoy seeing the course material covered in class come to life in the day to day operations in my new position.”
