James D came to the Urban Seniors Jobs Program at the Urban League of Essex County with a background in cooking. However, he had had been out of the workforce for sometime and was having difficulty finding employment.
At times being unemployed for any length of time can dampen one's attitude regarding their self-worth and self-esteem. James attended various workshops that empowered and enhanced his confidence and his ability to get back into the workforce. He also attended basic computer training workshops to keep current with today's technology.
With the help of the Urban League, James received training at his host agency including food preparation, kitchen management along with sanitation and safety regarding the handling and disposing of food.
James got a job at the Legends Cafe the Prudential Center Arena in Newark, starting at $11 per hour.
James says, “I'm so very thankful that the Urban Seniors Jobs Program was here for me in my time of need.”
