Jimmie W was born and raised in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. Growing up he had experienced a lot of challenges which led him down the path of self-destruction. As a result, in December of 2007, Williams and his wife started “Just Us Lawn Care, Inc” and they have accomplished great things with their business thus far. Most recently, they were selected to the Accion Chicago Client Advisory Board for the 2016-2018 years and participated in the Mayor’s Round Table at the Small Business Expo 2016. In 2012, Just Us Lawn Care was featured on My50 Chicago - Monique Caradine, “Coming From a Rough Past to Creating a Prosperous Future”, as well as Score Chicago Success Story. Furthermore in 2012, Accion Chicago also created a documentary about Jimmie and his business. In 2011, they were featured in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, by the Institute for Justice Law Clinic as well as in Accion’s Annual Report.
Jimmie completed the Chicago Urban League’s NextLevel program in 2016. He stated that The Chicago Urban League has assisted him with growing his business. “The Chicago Urban League has assisted us with growing our business in the NextLevel program, where we learned information on growth strategy, financial planning, business demographics and much more.” Mr. Williams also stated, “The Chicago Urban League referred us to be a guest at the Small Business round table with Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The Chicago Urban League has also assisted us with mentoring and coaching from Kevin Bush and Cate Costa, the instructors from the NextLevel program. Attorney Ron Austin from Grant Law will be assisting us with the closing from Community Reinvestment Fund.”
Just Us Lawn Care, Inc. is in the process of securing funding with one of Chicago Urban League’s newest partners, Community Reinvestment Fund USA. Funding will be used for rebranding, working capital and taking “Just Us” to the next level. Williams said, “Our future goals include becoming MBE certified with the City of Chicago to bid on larger projects, which will allow us to bring jobs to our community. We are also working on creating an ex offender program where we will train individuals with a background, who are ready to get their lives together, to become business owners.”
