Ms. Maribel Lazcano had been living happily as a proud homeowner until a car accident put it all in danger. She’d been working at the Houston Marriott North hotel as a server for 5 years, but after the unexpected accident her working hours had to be reduced. The reduced income put her home at risk of being foreclosed upon, until she visited the Houston Area Urban League!
Ms. Lazcano was juggling multiple responsibilities as a homeowner and as the proud single mother of a 19 year old just starting college. The unexpected loss in income put her two mortgage months behind, and with English as her second language she was having difficulty working with her lender. Thankfully, the HAUL’s bilingual housing counselor was able to assist in navigating the system with her lender, and helped her in completing and submitting her loan modification request. As a result, Ms. Lazcano received a trial modification with an affordable payment at a 4% interest rate and was able to save her home!
