Chicago Urban League Entrepreneurship Center Provides Valuable Connections
Calvin E. Williams is the founder and CEO of Construction Contracting Services Inc., a general contracting firm that specializes in vertical construction, provides construction consulting and performs construction advisory services.
Mr. Williams’s experience in commercial construction is broad and varied. His projects span across all sectors from commercial, local and state government to higher education. He has worked on projects to include constructing a seven‐unit family town‐home development, renovating units for the Chicago housing authority, historically restoring the YMCA in Joliet, Illinois (wherein the project also consisted of converting part of the facility into a 90+ room senior living facility) and building a new convocation center at Mount Carmel
High School on the south side of Chicago. His exposure to marginalized populations during his studies inspired him to create work opportunities for minority skilled tradesmen, engineers and administrators, culminating in CCSI’s certification as a Minority Business Enterprise in the states of Indiana and Illinois.
Calvin recently shared the following when asked how the Chicago Urban League has assisted his business “I have been working with the Chicago Urban League for the past two years in a number of capacities i.e. Tollway Diversity Advisory Committee among other community focused programs. Recently I began working with Quentella Enty who has referred my company to participate in the Northwestern Kellogg School of Business ASCEND Program which is sponsored by Chase Bank. This program was a residential one-week program where we received more than 40 hours of instruction on operating and managing our companies. This program was an eye opener for me and provided more resources than I could have imagined including ongoing relationships with Kellogg. I am also currently receiving assistance rewriting my business plan with the help of a Kellogg MBA student. We also have connections with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Polsky Center where we have access to resources that help grow my business. We are also participating in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Program where we hope to gain more exposure as we build our brand and opportunities. Moreover, Quentella has been very helpful in introducing me to business service providers i.e. financing and accessing capital, business/ personal credit review and restoration and many more. I have also begun to involve my executive staff in Urban League programs that will help to broaden their business acumen in many ways. Last but not least, Quentella has been providing business coaching to me to help me improve my focus and leadership. I am excited to be partnering with the Chicago Urban League and its many other partners and resources that will help my company to reach its full potential.”
