Chicago Urban League’s 2017 Summer pitchCraft Winner!
Brathwaite was inspired to invent Road Trip Potty due to an accident where she incurred knee and back injuries. She frequently found herself stuck in traffic needing to use the restroom. Brathwaite then began to research possible products to address the concerns of women and girls who found themselves in similar situations. That’s when she decided to invent, “Road Trip Potty”. Road Trip Potty is a portable female urinal that is splash and leak-resistant, specifically contoured to a female’s body, and stores discreetly under the passenger car seat. Road Trip Potty was incorporated in February 2017.
With Road Trip Potty sales starting in mid-July 2017, the company has already accomplished a lot. In their short period of time, the company has one marketing video with over 230 thousand views, positive feedback from customers, interest from potential investors/venture capitalists, and received international requests to ship the product. Additionally, Angela Brathwaite (Inventor/CEO) has won the Chicago Urban League’s 2017 Summer pitchCraft competition.
Brathwaite stated that, “The Chicago Urban League has been instrumental in helping me grow and develop as a CEO speaking on behalf of the company. Before working with the Chicago Urban League, I lacked confidence in talking about my product to large audiences because I was not
sure how to craft the most concise message that addressed the value of Road Trip Potty while speaking about the need for the product. While I had identified in the business plan how Road Trip Potty was different from competitors and conducted research about the target market, I was not sure how to frame the conversation to clearly and precisely articulate why Road Trip Potty is needed in every car in which females travel.”
“The Chicago Urban League provided a framework for me to think about the best ways to discuss the problem Road Trip Potty is solving and provided opportunities to craft a variety of pitches about Road Trip Potty that are suitable for various audiences. Because of the practice and guidance from the Chicago Urban League, I confidently networked with CEO’s and government officials at a Department of Defense conference where I used elements from my pitch to talk about Road Trip Potty and the problems that it solves.”
