The Fort Wayne Urban League (Ft. Wayne, IN) honored two of its college-bound participants with scholarships Thursday.
Mariah Thomas and Desmon Davis are both graduates of Snider High School.
They were each chosen from essays they wrote to receive a $500 scholarship to help with financial needs as they continue their education.
Urban League volunteer Alan Grinsfelder donated the money for the scholarships, hoping to level the playing field.
"A lot of young people today just don't have the financial abilities to meet the growing needs and the amount of costs that colleges have, and I hope this will help ease them over that bumpy road," said Grinsfelder.
"It helps out a lot with extra expenses-the books, and a laptop for me to use. It's all the extra little things that people really forget about," said Desmon Davis.
