NEW ORLEANS -- With the November election just months away, President Barack Obama sounded the battle cry Wednesday night inside the Ernest Morial Convention Center.
The president delivered the opening address at the National Urban League Conference being held here in New Orleans.
Obama didn’t hold back, focusing on a range of issues from education to healthcare to crime and job creation.
Even before the president took to the stage inside the convention center, the crowd was abuzz. When the president finally arrived to kick off the conference, the audience went wild.
The president’s message was deliberate and somber at times. Addressing the audience he talked about health care reform being critical to the nation’s overall health.
"We believe that in the richest nation on Earth that you shouldn't go broke when you get sick," Obama said. "And after a century of trying and a decision now from the highest court in the land, health-care reform is here to stay. We're moving forward."
