On June 15, 2012, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that effective immediately, certain young people who were brought to the United States as young children, do not present a risk to national security or public safety, and meet several key criteria will be considered for relief from removal from the country or from entering into removal proceedings. Those who demonstrate that they meet the following criteria will be eligible on a case by case basis to receive deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and will be eligible to apply for work authorization:-

The new directive will be implemented in the coming weeks, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will outline and announce the procedures by which individuals can engage in this process. Free Webinar: Why Social Security Matters to African Americans
Thursday, June 28, 2012
Join National Urban League Policy Institute Webinar on Why Social Security Matters to African AmericansAfter nearly 77 years, Social Security remains one of the nation’s most successful antipoverty programs! In 2010, Social Security kept over 20 million people out of poverty, including 1.1 million children. Although the rules for determining Social Security benefits are the same for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity or gender, African Americans uniquely benefit from the family-oriented structure of the program based on certain characteristics. Nearly half (47%) of all African-American Social Security beneficiaries receive benefits for something other than retirement, compared to only 28% of whites. Any proposed changes to the Social Security program will have an especially profound impact on earners between the ages of 21 to 45. Through the National Urban League Policy Institute’s survey of young African American professionals, join the Webinar and find out how they view the Social Security program, and how – or whether – it factors into their financial planning. Get answers to critical questions about Social Security such as –
- Is Social Security just a retirement program?
- Is the program going broke?
- What proposed changes – if any – are policymakers planning for Social Security? How would that affect me and/or my family?
Learn what we all can do to keep the Social Security program strong for future generations.
