Policy Institute Briefs Hill Staff on 8-Point Plan to Educate, Employ and Empower

Panelists for the briefing comprised professionals in education advocacy, public policy and program delivery, and included Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh CEO Esther Bush. Bush offered compelling case studies on individuals who benefitted from job-retraining, case management and other wrap-around services.
The panelists looked at two key aspects of the Urban League’s jobs and education policy platform—workforce development in urban communities and aligning STEM education with the needs of the future workforce. Attendees heard remarks from Representative Marcia Fudge (D-OH) and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), who each touted the importance of STEM curricula in preparing African American youth for jobs of the future. Rep. Fudge introduced the Project Ready STEM Act (H.R. 4366) in March.
