Empowerment for Young Women
Christina Exantus of Queensbridge and Eleanor Rose of Elmhurst visited the Time Warner Cable office in Manhattan for the New York Urban League’s Third Annual Girls’ Empowerment Day (New York, NY). Both attended the Academy of Finance & Enterprise in Long Island City.
On March 9, Time Warner Cable welcomed a group of enthusiastic young women to the company’s Flatiron office from Health Opportunities H.S., UFT Charter School and Academy of Finance and Enterprise for the New York Urban League’s Third Annual Girls’ Empowerment Day. Female students visited various corporations to learn about how science and technology have affected the business.
The students were given a tour of the Time Warner Cable offices and met with female employees from the communications, marketing, human resources, customer care, information technology, technical operations and government relations departments. The young women were also treated to presentations by Senior Director of Engineering Mike Gorman and Vice President of Human Resources Connie Ciliberti. Gorman showcased how the Time Warner Cable operations worked and Ciliberti provided top tips for successful networking.
“It’s a great opportunity to work with the New York Urban League and show these young women that they can be our future engineers, marketing and information technology professionals,” said Regional Vice President of Operations in New York City for Time Warner Cable John Quigley. “Science and technology plays a large role at Time Warner Cable and is the focus of our Connect A Million Minds program to raise awareness about these important subjects. We hope the young women found the day at Time Warner Cable to be an inspirational learning experience.
Time Warner Cable is also sponsoring the New York Urban League’s Second Annual Young Men’s Empowerment Day where male students will get to visit the company’s offices on March 23.
Connect a Million Minds is an initiative created by Time Warner Cable in 2009, designed to inspire the next generation of problem solvers by connecting young people to the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math.
