Urban League Works to Help More People Find Jobs
Though the economy is slightly better, there are still many people here in Middle Tennessee without a job. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 the Urban League of Middle Tennessee (Nashville, TN) hosted a luncheon downtown focusing on how to get people back to work.
It was called the Equal Opportunity Day celebration, and the idea was to bring together small business owners and other community leaders to look at ways of turning things around in 2012.
"What we know is that if we can encourage people to own their work, to self employ in some capacity if they have the ability to do that, that gives them the opportunity to earn a living and sustain themselves and their families," said Patricia Parrish Stokes, President and CEO of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.
The other goal of the luncheon was to educate small business owners about programs and services available to them that they may not already be taking advantage of.
