It's Tax Season! Take a Look at Three Local Affiliates Offering Free Tax Assistance to their Communities
CHARLESTON, SC |Free Tax Assistance 
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is working with Trident United Way, the Trident Urban League (Charleston, SC) and the IRS to help e-file and get returns in seven to ten business days. They say it's a way to boost the economy.
Representative and volunteer, Adrian Wilson said there were "about 2,300 returns last year which equaled about $4 million in returns to those people who, if they had gone to a paid preparer they wouldn't receive that kind of money, it'd be a much smaller percentage."
Those families may also qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, worth as much as $5,000.
With more sites and volunteers this year, the coalition of groups supporting free tax service hope more people can take advantage.

GARY, IN | The Urban League of Northwest Indiana will Provide Free Income Tax Services for Anyone Earning Less than $50,000 a Year
The service is available from noon to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the offices of the Urban League of Northwest Indiana (Gary, IN), at 3101 Broadway, Gary, IN.
Certified tax preparers are volunteering their services for those who are income eligible. People from Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties can come directly to the Urban League office without an appointment or call (219) 887-9621 and ask to speak to Diane.

CHATTANOOGA, TN |Urban League Providing Free Tax Preparation For Public Housing Residents
The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) is offering free income tax preparation for all public housing residents living in communities owned and/or managed by the Chattanooga Housing Authority.
The free service will be available at Greenwood Terrace Apartments, 3056 Dee Drive, Chattanooga, TN on Fridays, February 10 and 17, 2012 from 10 a.m. to noon. Residents are asked to call (423) 495-0875 ahead of time to schedule an appointment so that everyone may be accommodated.
