The National Urban League and Walgreens, collaborating for the fourth year, have launched a national mobile health testing tour with the goal of promoting better health in urban communities across the country.
The National Urban League and Walgreens Wellness Tour, which features a mobile health testing and education vehicle, will provide free access to health tests in urban communities across the country through February 2011. The mobile health testing vehicle is dedicated to expanding access to quality and affordable health services.
Through the Wellness Tour, the National Urban League and Walgreens will provide adults convenient, free access to six health tests, which are collectively valued at $100*. The health tests provide adults with a critical foundation for early disease detection and prevention. Tests available include:
- Total Cholesterol Levels
- Blood Pressure
- Bone Density
- Glucose Levels
- Waist Circumference
- Body Mass Index
People in urban communities experience disproportionately higher rates of preventable disease. As proven through previous year's programs, health tests are a critical method for detecting potential diseases before symptoms are noticed. Not only are minority groups more susceptible to certain illness and less likely to recover than other groups, but there is an alarming lack of affordable health care available to them. The National Urban League and Walgreens Wellness Tour are encouraging members of urban communities to act as their own health advocates by visiting the health testing vehicle when it stops in their city. Visitors to the tour will also have access to free educational information on a variety of health and wellness issues.
The National Urban League and Walgreens Wellness Tour is one of two national health testing campaigns created by Walgreens.
