The Urban League of Broward County announced that, for the 11th consecutive year, it will host a rally to help prepare low-income students and families get ready for school.
This year, the event will feature local resource providers such as Kaplan University, Broward College and Office Depot and will include an education zone, a health zone and a kid's zone with music, games and giveaways.
Additional resources for parents will include information and applications for free tutoring programs offered by One on One Learning and finger printing information provided by the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Representatives from the Urban League's TOTTS (Together Our Tots Thrive and Survive) program will provide prenatal and infant education information.
“Education is one of the Urban League's four key areas of service. The Back to School Rally plays an important role in making education and youth development a priority,” said, Germaine Smith-Baugh, Urban League’s President & CEO.
The Back to School Rally is held annually to equip students with free school supplies and provide parents and teachers with resources to help improve educational outcomes for children in low-income communities.
All services are free to those who attend the rally, which will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Rev. Samuel Delevoe Park.
