More than 100 youths attended a youth empowerment and leadership summit last Friday at Indiana University Northwest. The daylong gathering featured workshops and presentations for youths and parents on leadership and empowerment skills.

Others conducting workshops included David Cooks of Dads Are Doing Something, educator Todd McCain, Jabrita Shelton of Real Women Moving Forward, Inc., Indiana Parenting Institute, Twenty-First Century Scholars and others.

“This shows us that there is a great need in the community to reach out and help our young people,” said Vanessa Allen, President and CEO, Urban League of Northwest Indiana (Gary, IN).
