On Thursday July 28th, Dr. Ian Smith, a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, joined over 300 high school students at the 2011 National Urban League Youth Summit held at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Smith is well known as the medical/diet expert on VH1’s highly-rated “Celebrity Fit Club,” the creator and founder of The 50 Million Pound Challenge and the author of six health and wellness books, spoke about the importance of eating healthy and exercising. He shared the importance of incorporating fruits, vegetables and whole grains into daily meals as well as 60 minutes of a day of physical activity. He engaged his young audience by allowing them to tell him what they know about fitness and nutrition and by empowering them to take control of their health
The President’s Council is a Federal advisory committee of volunteer citizens who advise the President through the Secretary of HHS about physical activity, fitness, sports and nutrition in America. Through its programs and partnerships with the public, private and non-profit sectors, the Council serves as a catalyst to promote health, physical activity, fitness, and enjoyment for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through participation in physical activity and sports.
