WHAT IS THE GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS PROGRAM?

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS), was established in 1999 by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to UNCF—the United Negro College Fund—the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization. The goal of GMS is to educate “Leaders for America’s Future” by providing eligible students with the opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in the discipline of their choice and continue through to a doctoral degree in seven GMS funded fields.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? MALE STUDENTS WHO ARE...

• African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American; and
• 8th-10th graders who have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above, 11th graders who have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on an 4.0 unweighted scale, and those who have earned a GED.
