Community members were wowed by the maturity and commitment to scholarly excellence of the young scholars of the Urban Prep Academies of Chicago at a Community Engagement Forum & Panel Discussion with the Urban League of Greater Madison on Feb. 26 at the Cuna Mutual Conference Center.
About two dozen Urban Prep scholars were the guests of honor at the event. Urban Prep will serve as a model for ULGM's Madison Preparatory Academy an all-male middle and high charter school — in 2012-2013. Like Urban Prep Academies, Madison Prep will be designed around a college-going philosophy and innovative instructional and student support strategies.
At the event, the CUNA Mutual Foundation announced that it had adopted the Madison Prep charter school. “We believe strongly in supporting efforts in strengthening the quality of life in our community,” said Steve Goldberg, president of the CUNA Foundation. “We've decided that we wanted to give financial support to help this idea take hold in our community and help them succeed. We want to shift the paradigm of how we prepare our young people for success in our community.
