Why Give?
The Great Recession has taken a particularly heavy toll on the lives of African Americans, literally tens of thousands of whom have lost their jobs, homes and life savings. An economic crisis of such epic magnitude calls for new thinking, and dramatically effective programs and policies. The National Urban League is uniquely poised to help by having been engaged in urban communities as an agent for positive change for over 100 years.
Last year through our 98 affiliates in 36 states, we provided more than 2.1 million people with life-saving and life-changing services in the areas of jobs, housing, health and education. In 2010, our key accomplishments included:
- Over 225,000 people in over 70 affiliate cities were assisted with job placement, new business opportunities, securing capital and financial education. More than 11,400 persons were placed in jobs with an average salary of $19,600.
NUL is widely-respected and trusted non-profit/charity. NUL has earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating, and has been endorsed by the American Institute of Philanthropy and the better business Bureau.
