ULGA hosted a tobacco usage informational in the Peachtree Center Mall food court during peak lunch hour time, the day before Kick Butts Day. Kick Butts Day is another CVS Health sponsored campaign focused on getting youth to quit smoking. We pasted out brochures and asked smokers to at least consider ‘kicking butts’ for 24-hours. Even with little time to prepare, this may have been one of the best-attended outreach
The Urban League of Greater Atlanta held it's first Smoke Cessation group at Adamsville Green Senior Housing Residence with 11 participants. Through the support of the management Mercy Housing who has recently gone Smoke-Free at this facility, many attendees expressed interest. As an effort to support residents who continue to smoke on the property, the management has encouraged them to join our group every session. So far, 3 have

With a common goal of eliminating health disparities in the African American community, Anthem, Inc., the National Urban League, City of Hope and Pfizer, Inc., have teamed up to create Take Action for Health, a unique initiative focused on reducing some of the greatest health risks facing the African American community today: breast cancer, heart disease and emotional well-being.

Mental and emotional well-being are critical components to an individual’s health status. Recently a number of affiliates have identified mental and emotional health issues are priority areas that need to be addressed within their communities. With this in mind, the Health and Quality of Life team wanted to provide the affiliates attending the 2016 Whitney M. Young Leadership Development Conference with a certification to help them meet this need.
Julian, 18 years old, was 8 weeks pregnant when she enrolled in Project Wellness. Julian did not have medical insurance or a medical provider when enrolled in the program. Urban League staff was able to work with the staff at the maternity shelter to ensure that she obtained Medicaid through assisting her with the application process and providing her with a list of prenatal doctors in her area.
